There are five names in the running to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United boss, according to reports.
Solskjaer is on the brink of the sack after United's humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.
The Red Devils are now 12 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea and facing the prospect of another season without major silverware.
Despite abject performances against rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, United chiefs were keen for Solskjaer, who only penned a new three-year deal in the summer, to see out the season.
But the manner of the chastening defeat to the newly-promoted Hornets, the club's fifth loss in their last seven games, has seen fresh discussions take place between United's top brass.
It is now only a matter of time before the Norwegian is given the bullet and the starting gun fired on the race to find the 50-year-old's successor begins.
One man who was heavily linked with the job last month but is no longer available is new Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte.
United's decided against talking to the Italian following the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in October, and the former Chelsea chief has since been snapped up by Spurs.
ESPN understands the Red Devils are now looking at five names to replace Solskjaer, with varying levels of support for Ralf Rangnick, Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag and Zinedine Zidane.

However, all of the candidates except Zidane are employed by other clubs, creating a problem for United who are already facing a £7.5million bill to get rid of Solskjaer.
There would also be support for former Old Trafford stars Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick to lead the team while a successor is found, although the duo are novices at the top level.
How that would work and for how long is unclear with United facing a nightmare run of 10 games in five weeks before the end of the calendar year.
