Man Utd asked to delay Diallo transfer after ‘receiving passport’ for move

Atalanta have asked Manchester United if they can delay Amad Diallo’s imminent transfer and keep him for the rest of the current season.

United agreed a fee for the 18-year-old during the summer window, in a deal that could reach £37million.

However, Diallo was forced to wait before joining up with his new teammates, with the winger staying in Italy until a work permit was granted.

That is now believed to have been finalised with Solskjaer suggesting his arrival was expected in the coming days.

Speaking after Friday night’s win over Aston Villa, Solskjaer said: "We have had all the paperwork, I can't see any obstacles. He's coming.

"I hope very soon he will be with us.

"I’m very excited about bringing him in, I think he’s shown a few times his qualities.

"Of course he has to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football.

"We’ll give him time to develop and to express himself.

"Apart from that, I’m not really thinking too much on what we’re going to do with players [in the January transfer window]."

But Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has revealed the club have made a late plea to keep Diallo for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

“There is an internal solution that could be very interesting, which is Amad Diallo. Clearly, Manchester United own him, but he could remain with us for a few more months,” said Gasperini.

“I really like him, he’s only 18, and I’d like him to stay until June, but obviously it depends on his club.”

Since United agreed a deal for the youngster, he has made just two substitute appearances in all competitions, with Atalanta impressing in the Champions League, but struggling in Serie A.
