Manchester United would rival Real Madrid in any future transfer tussle for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, according to reports.
The Norwegian prodigy joined the Bundesliga giants in the January transfer window and his prolific form in front of goal has bolstered his reputation as one of Europe’s leading marksmen.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held talks with Haaland in the winter but Old Trafford chiefs cooled their interest due to the insistence of the player’s representatives to include a release clause in his contract.

But ESPN claim United are still interested in pursuing a deal for Haaland when the time comes for him to leave Dortmund.
They will, however, face stiff competition from Real Madrid who are looking for a long-term replacement for the ageing Karim Benzema.
The Spanish giants have struggled for goals this season, relying heavily on Benzema despite investing £62million in signing Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.
And a release clause inserted in Haaland’s contract when he moved to Germany in January has put the Spanish giants on red alert.
The 19-year-old is understood to be allowed to leave for £63m from next summer, a fee well below his market value.

It is thought Dortmund are hoping to get another season out of him though with Jadon Sancho expected to leave the club this summer and a reluctance to let two key players leave in the same window.
United have been chasing a striker ever since Romelu Lukaku left for Inter Milan in the summer.
Odion Ighalo was brought in on loan in January and, whole Solskjaer has not ruled out making the move permanent, the club are still on the hunt for a forward.
Haaland has scored 12 goals in 11 games for Dortmund since arriving from Salzburg, taking his tally for the season to 40 in 33 appearances across all competitions.
