Liverpool transfer roundup: Thiago bid delayed as Reds join defender battle

Liverpool's Premier League season got off to a good start with victory over Leeds on Saturday.

The Reds' attacking prowess proved too much for the newly-promoted visitors, though there were questions raised over performances in midfield and defence.

And Liverpool's apparent vulnerabilities might encourage Jurgen Klopp to delve into the transfer market again before the close of the window.

It has been a quiet summer, understandably, but talk of Bayern midfielder Thiago continues, and there might yet be some outgoings.

Here we take a look at the latest Liverpool rumours.

Reds to wait until final week to make Thiago move

Liverpool will not make a move for Thiago until the final week of the transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

Manchester United are also interested in the Bayern man, but the Reds are reportedly clear favourites to secure his signature.

Signing another midfielder is not a priority for United, but Liverpool are determined to get the deal done after a prolonged transfer saga.

“We’ve spoken a lot about this one, and it’s going to go right to the wire, I think,” said talkSPORT's Alex Crook.

“If [Gini] Wijnaldum goes I think Liverpool will accelerate their interest.

“I know Manchester United have spoken to Thiago’s agent but midfield is not a priority for them at the moment.

“Liverpool are still the front-runners, but they’re trying to force Bayern Munich to lower that €30m asking price.

“I’m not expecting a bid to come in probably until the final week of the window."

Liverpool striker in talks with Turkish club

Fenerbahce are in talks with Liverpool over a deal to sign Divock Origi.

The Turkish side are one of five clubs believed to be interested in the striker.

Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton and Fulham are all considering a move and could offer Origi a continued stay in the Premier League.

But Fenerbahce have made the first move, reportedly with a view to taking the Belgium international on loan.

Liverpool are open to the deal providing a loan fee and mandatory obligation-to-buy clause are included.

Origi is under contract at Anfield for another four years, but he may be let go for as little as £14m.

His sale would only be given the green light if Liverpool have found an adequate replacement.

Liverpool are in the hunt for a defender and have identified Sampdoria's Omar Colley as a potential target, according to SampNews24.

The 27-year-old has a reported £10.8m release clause in his contract with the Italian club.

And the Reds could target him as another option at centre-back after the exit of Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool currently have Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the position, with Fabinho a possible option if needed.

Colley has impressed in Serie A, though it's not clear if he would be open to a move, and there have been no concrete reports of a Liverpool offer yet.
