Liverpool transfer chief Michael Edwards has reportedly already made a decision which could earn the club £26million in the summer due to Curtis Jones’ impact this season. The main focus for Jurgen Klopp at the moment will be trying to turn around their recent poor run of form which has seen the drop out of the Champions League places.

Injuries have struck Klopp’s squad hard this campaign with a number of first-team players forced to watch from the stands.

Liverpool’s title-winning midfield three of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum haven’t started a single Premier League game together this season due to the ongoing injury crisis.

But one positive outcome as a result of Klopp changing around his squad has been the emergence of Jones.

The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks at Liverpool and has long been touted for a bright future by youth coaches.

Fans caught a glimpse of his talents last season as Klopp gave the midfielder a handful of Premier League appearances.

But this season has proven to be his breakthrough year having made 28 appearances in all competitions.

He also scored an important winning goal against Ajax in the Champions League group stages earlier in the season.

Only Wijnaldum has played more games in midfield for Liverpool this campaign such has Jones’ influence grown over the past year.

Injuries may have helped Jones earn a regular run of games, but he’s now pushed himself ahead of the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the queue to start for Klopp.

When everyone is fit, Liverpool are certainly not short of options in midfield with eight players vying for a starting spot.

That could well grow to nine should Wijnaldum decide to stay as well as Marko Grujic returning from his loan spell with Porto.

However, Sportske claim the 24-year-old is set to be sold by Liverpool in the summer with Edwards already contacting agents.

It is claimed that Jones’ performances for Liverpool this season have convinced club officials that Grujic won’t be needed going forward.

And Liverpool are hoping to get up to £26m for the midfielder, which could well be reinvested elsewhere in the squad.

Bolstering their options at centre-back appears to be a top priority for Liverpool given the injuries to Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

But reports have suggested that bringing in another attacker capable of filling in for Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will also be on the agenda.
