Liverpool not put off by transfer target’s new contract after interest in summer
Liverpool’s position on transfer target Ben White hasn’t changed, despite the centre-back putting pen to paper on a bumper new contract at Brighton.
The Reds have been linked with a host of defenders in the build-up to and in the January transfer window.
Injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have left the reigning Premier League champions starved of options at the back.
But despite having to play inexperienced youngsters or central midfielders at the back, Liverpool have always maintained they won’t spend this winter unless the right option becomes available for a suitable price.
And it seems they are sticking to that policy, and are making long-term plans for the summer window.
White has always been touted as one of their potential options, as the Reds apparently held a genuine interest in him during the previous window.
The youngster impressed while on loan at Leeds United last season, but Liverpool opted against making a bid due to his inexperience at the top level.

White returned to Brighton from his loan and signed a new four-year contract at the Amex.
Liverpool aren’t too bothered, according to reports, and are still holding him in high regard.
They aren’t expected to make a bid this month, but are instead likely to test the waters once the season ends.
Liverpool have been linked with Ozan Kabak and Perr Schurrs this winter, but are unlikely to make any permanent signings.
The Reds have stood firm against calls for them to bring in a new centre-back this window on an emergency basis, with Jurgen Klopp instead opting to give younger players a chance.
Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams have both been given unlikely minutes this season, and one of them will likely play alongside Fabinho against Manchester United on Sunday if Matip doesn’t recover in time.
