Liverpool ‘most likely’ to win £117m Jadon Sancho Man Utd transfer battle on one condition

Liverpool is the “most likely destination” for Jadon Sancho despite intense competition from Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund, however, believe the break in play as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic will help them keep the England international for another season. That is according to former Premier League striker and Bundesliga pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft.

Sancho is, arguably, the most in-demand prospect ahead of the next transfer window after an incredible season for Dortmund before professional football across the planet ground to a halt.

Old Trafford bosses are desperate to lure the 20-year-old to Manchester to solve Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s lack of options on the right wing.

But they face competition from Liverpool despite Jurgen Klopp’s riches in attack.

A move to Anfield to work with the former Dortmund boss would appeal but the Premier League leaders are unlikely to spend big while Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino remain on their books.

And Fjortoft claims Liverpool would have to sell either Salah or Mane, who has been linked with Real Madrid, before they would consider sanctioning a swoop for Sancho.

He wrote on Twitter: “Price: 130 million euro. Man UTD working very hard to get him. Liverpool still most likely destination. But have to sell either Mane or Salah.

“New is that Dortmund see this stop of the season as a chance to keep him another season.”

Earlier this month, Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke attempted to play down the chances of Sancho leaving.

“I think he has the feeling that the club does have a good future,” Watzke told BBC Sport.

“In my opinion, I don’t think he wants to leave.

“We have a very confidential relationship between us and him and his agents, we will discuss it.

“It’s not a question of money. For us, it would be the best position if he stays at Borussia Dortmund.

“We have enough money. We want to have titles. I think this team has a lot more potential with Jadon than without Jadon.”

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner appears to be a more realistic option for Liverpool due to his flexibility in attacking positions.

Chelsea are also interested in Sancho but all the clubs face the issue of not knowing when the transfer window will open.

The worldwide coronavirus pandemic has forced the suspension of all of Europe’s top domestic leagues.

And it is unclear when the campaign will resume and what effect it will have on the transfer market.
