Liverpool interested in Bayern Munich’s David Alaba in January window
It would be no surprise if Liverpool have their top talent scouts scouring the continent, as the reigning Premier League champions bid to ease their defensive woes.
Joe Gomez has joined captain Virgil van Dijk on the long-term absentees list, while Jurgen Klopp could also look to strengthen other areas of the squad in the January transfer window.
Several fringe stars narrowly missed out on moves of their own before the summer deadline passed, but could push for the exit door if Klopp does bring in new recruits.
With that in mind, here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.
Sporting could raise Mendes’ release clause
Reported Liverpool target Nuno Mendes looks set to have his release clause raised by his club, Sporting Lisbon.
The 18-year-old left-back is also a target for Manchester United, but Portuguese outlet Record claims, via Sport Witness, that the capital city side are close to renewing the teenager’s contract, which will bump his release clause up to £63 million.
Portuguese defender linked with Liverpool move
Another Portuguese defender is apparently a target for the Reds in the January transfer window.
The Premier League champions are widely expected to sign a new centre-half in January, having lost both Van Dijk and Gomez to long-term injuries.
And, according to Portuguese television station Sic Noticias, Ruben Semedo, who plays for Greek club Olympiacos, is of interest to Liverpool.
Capped twice by his country, Semedo joined Olympiacos from Villarreal in the summer of last year.
Reds interested in Alaba
Juventus may lead the race for wantaway Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, but Liverpool maintain an interest in the Austrian international as well.
The 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, although there is a possibility that he could leave in January for a cut price fee.
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport via Football Italia, Alaba is a top target for the Italian giants, although Liverpool are considering signing him in a bid to ease their defensive concerns.
Alaba is usually deployed as a centre-back, but he can also play at left-back and in midfield.
Liverpool ready to bid for Barca youngster
Liverpool are reportedly ready to bid for Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde.
The 17-year-old, who is considered one of the crown jewels in Barca’s famed La Masia academy, is thought to be of interest to the Reds, as well as Chelsea, claims Spanish newspaper Sport, via Sport Witness.
It adds that the left-back is yet to feature in either of the Catalan giants’ senior teams, despite impressing in the UEFA Youth League.
