Liverpool will reportedly face competition from Chelsea to sign Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool are looking to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, with the Holland international set to leave the club this summer.

Wijnaldum is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and talks have stalled over an extension.

Barcelona are favourites to sign the former Newcastle star on a free transfer.

Gravenberch has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising midfielders this season at Ajax.

And it appears there will be a race for his signature.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport name Liverpool and Chelsea as clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old.

Gravenberch is already a regular for Ajax, scoring eight goals in 50 appearances, and has won three caps for the senior Holland side.

The report values the player at around £30million (€35m).

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could look to add youth to his midfield with the signing of Gravenberch.

But Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool may be in greater need of the teenager in order to find a direct replacement for Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum has been a key cog in the Liverpool side since joining the club in 2016.

He has made over 200 appearances in all competitions, scoring 22 goals.

Wijnaldum was asked about his future ahead of the Champions League last-16 tie against RB Leipzig last month.

But he insisted there was no update on where he will be playing next season.

“At the moment, there is no news,” the 30-year-old said.

“I would lie if I come with news, I can say I’m really happy at the club.

“It’s not that easy as everyone thinks about some decisions for your future, you have to think about everything.

“You have to negotiate with the club, it’s so difficult to deal with things. The situation we are in right now, it is not the most important thing.

“The only thing I can say is, is that I’m happy with the team etc, my family is happy but besides that no news.

“[It would be] Really difficult because if that happens you leave a team you really love, where you feel really comfortable. It always depends on the situation, I would be devastated [to leave].”
