Liverpool and Chelsea locked in transfer fight for Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde
Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be going head-to-head over Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde.
La Masia star Balde is likely to be in the thoughts of Ronald Koeman having impressed at various youth levels, but he could be tempted by the promise of regular starts in the Premier League.
The 17-year-old left-back could find himself competing with the likes of Ben Chilwell or Andy Robertson should he fancy a new challenge, having played for Barcelona since the age of 8.
Although he has been tipped to push Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp, he could leave as soon as January.
Spanish outlet Sport have reported that Chelsea and Liverpool have already ‘approached’ representatives of Balde having followed him very closely for some time.
Balde has been tipped by the local media to become the next youth star to move into the first-team, while repeating the path of Ansu Fati who was a regular starter before his recent injury.
The interest could force Koeman to hand out another debut, but their upcoming clash against Atletico Madrid could prove to be too much of a stretch for the youngster.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would have been rocked by the news that Robertson faces a spell on the sidelines, which leaves his entire first choice defence out of action.
The German said after the recent injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold: “Hopefully we can play the Euros next summer but if we continue like this let’s see which players can be part of that.
“Trent will be out for England [for the three games]. What injury he has we don’t know but he cannot play for England and he is not the first and will not be the last that Gareth Southgate will miss.
“He’ll have a scan, then we will see.”
