Lineker aims cheeky dig at Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon over Covid-19 breach
Gary Lineker mentioned the recent actions of Sergio Reguilon ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Marine.
The Spanish defender spent December 25 alongside team-mates Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela, as well as West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini – in a breach of Covid-19 rules.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said that the photo had come as a ‘negative’ surprise, and that he was left feeling disappointed, with the club then choosing to fine those involved.
Lineker mentioned the incident in passing on Sunday ahead of their highly anticipated tie.
He said: “Marine are in their home dressing room but Tottenham’s team talk will be delivered from the Arriva Suite, a function room that can be hired out for parties.
“Sergio Reguilon has already inquired apparently.”
The Marine website states that the Suite can be hired for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, meetings and more.
A Spurs spokesperson said of the snap involving Reguilon and Lamela: “We are extremely disappointed and strongly condemn this image.
“We regularly remind all our players and staff about the latest protocols and their responsibilities to adhere and set an example.”
Reguilon had said earlier that week that he would be alone on Christmas Day, which led to a present from manager Jose Mourinho, who was left understandably disappointed.
Mourinho said of his gift to Reguilon: “An amazing gift. An amazing gift. A Portuguese piglet, which is amazing for Portuguese and Spanish (people).
“So I gave it to him because I was told that he was going to spend Christmas on his own. And I had this thought about him. He was not alone, as you could see.
“And as a club of course we feel disappointed because we give the players all the education.
“We give the players all the conditions, and of course we are not happy. It was a negative surprise for us.”
