Leeds United fans slam Marcelo Bielsa after Crawley Town claim shock FA Cup victory
FA Cup 3rd round: Results from the weekend's action
Leeds United fell victim to an unlikely FA Cup upset on Sunday afternoon as the Whites were comprehensively beaten by League Two side Crawley Town. Goals from Nick Tsaroulla, Ashley Nadesan and Jordan Tunnicliffe sealed an impressive 3-0 win for the Reds, who bizarrely introduced The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright as a substitute during the closing stages of the match.
The result marks another FA Cup campaign to forget for Leeds, who have been knocked out by lower-league opposition on a number of previous occasions.
The Yorkshire club were beaten by non-league Histon in the competition’s second round 13 years ago and dumped out at the hands of lowly Sutton United in 2017, before falling to defeat against Newport County the following season.
Leeds supporters on Twitter were left reeling by their team’s performance at the People’s Pension Stadium.
Some fans aimed their fury at boss Marcelo Bielsa, accusing the Argentinian of failing to take the competition seriously.
“No respect for the cup, after all the talk in midweek of respecting the cup Bielsa for the first time in his tenure has a lot to answer for,” raged one supporter.

Another claimed: “Maybe Bielsa will now realise that we do need more signings! Bar 11-12 we aren’t good enough! But Kiko shouldn’t play for this club again!”
“This was worse than all of them [previous upsets]. Probably the worst in my 29 years of supporting Leeds,” a third fan complained.
A fourth issued a damning verdict regarding Bielsa’s approach to the game: “No sense in what Bielsa did today whatsoever. Love the guy but he’s got to take a look at what he did today. Youngsters let him down.
“Think he’ll be disappointed in their lack of quality. They let him down in the League Cup too. Last chance for a few of them.”
His comments were echoed by another supporter: “Bielsa has to take responsibility for that. Awful use of subs at half time when we were actually playing ok and in control first half. And [Kiko] Casilla, get that man out of our club.”
“I’m utterly embarrassed, shocking beyond words,” one fan simply said.
However, there were also calls for calm despite Saturday’s disappointment, another supporter insisting: “Only thing that matters is staying in the Premiership. Everything else is a distraction. Let’s be honest about it.”
Leeds will be hoping to put their latest FA Cup debacle behind them with victory in the Premier League against Brighton and Hove Albion next Saturday.
The Whites look a good bet to secure top-flight football for another season, with the club currently twelve points and six places clear of the drop zone.
