Klopp slammed as an "actor who sells himself" by ex-manager of ‘other’ Liverpool
Gerardo Pelusso has slammed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, calling the German “an actor who sells himself very well”.
Klopp has impressed at Anfield since arriving in 2015 and guided the Reds to their maiden Premier League title last season.
He has also helped Liverpool win their sixth Champions League during his time on Merseyside with players appearing to love playing for Klopp.
Though Uruguayan Pelusso, who once managed Liverpool’s namesakes Liverpool FC Montevideo, does not think Klopp should get all the credit.
“Klopp is a good manager, but what happens is that he sells himself very well,” he told Info TNU.
“Liverpool’s success is not Klopp’s; Liverpool’s success is the success of those who put the squad together before he arrived.”
Pelusso also claimed that Klopp was offered the chance to sign Sadio Mane at Dortmund, but refused.
He continued: “Then he goes to Liverpool and Sadio is a monster as a footballer and as a person and he won them all the championships.
“So Klopp is a good coach, but he’s an actor who sells himself very well… He really understood the key to the football business, Klopp is an actor.”
Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders has previously spoken about how the boss gets the best out of his players.
"Jurgen creates a family. We always say: 30 per cent tactic, 70 per cent team-building,” he said in 2017.
“Liverpool are never boring. We play the game for those who view it. That is our responsibility as coaches. The worst thing about football is predictability."
