Harry Kane has insisted Bayern Munich should be wary of Manchester United when they host them this week, despite the Red Devils’ poor start to the season.

The teams face off on Wednesday evening in the Champions League group stage in what is a re-run of the iconic 1999 final.

United suffered a damaging 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday that continued their difficult run, with Erik ten Hag’s side picking up just six points from their first five Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Kane – who joined Bayern from Tottenham for £100m in the summer – has enjoyed a stellar start to life in Bavaria, with the England skipper netting four times in four matches for the German giants, who are unbeaten in the Bundesliga.

However, the 30-year-old insisted he would be taking nothing for granted on Wednesday when they come up against United.

United travel to Germany to face Bayern on Wednesday after a difficult start to the season

‘A difficult game,’ he told Sports Illustrated.  ‘I know Manchester United are having a difficult moment at the moment, but sometimes teams like that are dangerous because they’re always looking to come back in a big way.

‘So we have to be prepared for them and of course we want to get the crowd behind us as early as possible on Wednesday in front of our home crowd and approach the game with a lot of intensity.

‘The Champions League is always special and my first game with Bayern Munich will stay with me – so I hope it goes well.’

Kane has netted 21 goals in 32 appearances in Europe’s elite club competition in his career, but has only featured in it in five seasons, with Spurs often missing out on qualification.

They crashed out in the last-16 to AC Milan last season, but did reach the final in 2018-19 when they lost to Liverpool.

Kane will have aspirations to win the competition for Bayern, who have lifted the trophy on six previous occasions, with FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray joining United in their group.

Since joining Thomas Tuchel’s side on the eve of the season, Kane also insisted he is thoroughly enjoying his time at the club.

He added: ‘Everything has been fantastic so far. I obviously had a lot to do, both on and off the field, looking for a house and so on.

‘The whole club, the team, the employees – everyone welcomed me and was very friendly and helped me to settle in as quickly as possible.

‘And what surprised me the most were the fans. Since my arrival I have felt their extreme support. I see so many Kane jerseys and national team jerseys.

‘I’m looking forward to building this relationship and getting to know everyone even better, but so far it’s been a good start.’
