Jurgen Klopp tried to sign man who humiliated Man City after scouting on YouTube

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been hailed for their ability to recruit some of the best upcoming talent, but they tried to sign Rodrygo after scouting him on YouTube.

The Brazilian stunned Manchester City on Wednesday as he scored two goals in injury time to send their Champions League semi-final clash to extra time, before Karim Benzema's penalty dumped Pep Guardiola's side out. Rodrygo is one of Real Madrid's future stars, and has now scored against both Chelsea and City en route to the final.

But Klopp tried to sign Rodrygo before the Brazilian joined Madrid in a deal worth £38million. But it's since been revealed that Liverpool discovered the star on YouTube, highlighting the incredible reach of their recruitment staff.

That's according to Rodrygo's agent, Nick Arcuri, who revealed that Klopp was keen to sign the Brazilian when he was just 16 and playing for Santos in his homeland. Rodrygo had joined the club’s academy aged 10 and Klopp was reportedly so interested he made the trip to Sao Paulo to find out more about the star.

"When Rodrygo went to sign his first professional contract with Santos, aged 16, a Liverpool director called me saying that Klopp already knew the player," Rodrygo's agent explained on the Canal do Nicola YouTube channel. "He had seen the material and had already come to see Rodrygo personally.

"He had gone on YouTube, searched ‘talents from Brazil’, Rodrygo had appeared and he was very young. He came to Brazil and liked him." What's even more incredible, is that this occurred just as Klopp arrived at Liverpool.

Klopp reportedly wanted Rodrygo as his first signing, making it likely that he was aware of the youngster after leaving Borussia Dortmund. "They contacted me, the Liverpool director wanted him to be his first signing," Arcuri said.

"I went to England, sat in London – Liverpool have an office in London. I brought the proposal to Modesto [Roma Junior], then president of Santos. Modesto didn’t accept.

"It turned out that Santos didn’t want to sell Rodrygo and instead made the first professional contract. But it was Rodrygo’s first official proposal, he was 16 and it was Liverpool." The Brazilian later joined Madrid and it's a move that hasn't worked out too badly for the star. He will now face Liverpool in the Champions League final.
