Jose Mourinho takes sly dig at ‘new friend’ Gareth Southgate over Harry Kane
Jose Mourinho took a sly dig at England boss Gareth Southgate over Harry Kane last night.
Kane bagged the 15th hat-trick of his career as Tottenham scored a magnificent seven against Maccabi Haifa.
Lucas Moura and forgotten man Dele Alli also scored and Giovani Lo Celso bagged a brace as Spurs booked their place in the Europa League group stage.
But Mourinho, who took Kane off before the end, said: “He scores so many hat-tricks I don’t even believe he keeps every ball at home but it is always nice to score and we managed to save him 15 minutes.
“What I can promise to my friend Steve Holland, and so my new friend Gareth isn’t jealous, to him too, is I don’t play Harry one minute of a friendly match this season.”
England face Wales in a friendly next Thursday before a Nations League double-header against Belgium and Denmark.
Southgate had hit back at Mourinho’s demand that Kane be rested more often earlier in the day.
The England boss said: “He won't phone but he will stand on the top of Tottenham's stadium and tell us, so that was good.

"I'm upset I am not one of his friends. I know Steve is but in fairness he helped him to a title so that's understandable.”
Spurs are set to sign an understudy for Kane today with Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius flying in to complete a loan move.
Mourinho said: “Nobody confirmed anything to me so I am not going to speak about the individual but it is something that we need.”
