- Shelvey is currently out with a calf injury and has fallen down the pecking order
- The Newcastle midfielder has now been linked with a shock move to Turkey
- Shelvey would join Dele Alli, who is having a nightmare spell at the Turkish club
Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly on the verge of sealing a shock move to Turkish club Besiktas.
The 30-year-old is currently out of action with a calf injury and has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle, casting serious doubt over his future.
A move to Turkey would see Shelvey link up with Everton loanee Dele Alli – who is having a nightmare spell at Besiktas.

Besiktas are in talks with Newcastle and Shelvey over a potential move away from St James’ Park, according to Spor Arena.
It’s understood the talks have been positive despite the midfielder being out injured until late February or March.
There has been much speculation over Shelvey’s future at Newcastle and as the Magpies continue to spend heavily, the 30-year-old – who is out of contract in the summer – may decide to exit in order to find minutes elsewhere.
If Shelvey does make his move to Besiktas, he will hope it goes better than Alli’s time in Turkey.
It has been a miserable spell for the former Tottenham star with Alli struggling to make an impact and making just 10 appearances for the club, despite the fanfare that greeted his arrival.

Besiktas reportedly want to send Alli back to Everton due his struggles – but any return seems unlikely with there not thought to be a break clause in his loan agreement.
The Turkish giants will be hoping that Shelvey has a more positive impact, should he decide to leave St James’ Park.
Newcastle are continuing to invest in their squad with Eddie Howe, sporting director Dan Ashworth and recruitment chief Steve Nickson are drawing up a shortlist of targets, which Sportsmail understands includes Chelsea’s Jorginho.
Leicester’s Youri Tielemans has long been a target and remains of interest, but younger names are also in the frame.
France Under-21 midfielders Khéphren Thuram, of Nice, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kouadio Koné – both 21 years old – have been given glowing reports by Newcastle’s scouting department. Chelsea are also keen on that pair.
