John Terry releases statement about "unfair" links to being next Forest manager

Chelsea legend John Terry has released a statement on his Instagram page after being linked to the Nottingham Forest managers job.

Chris Hughton, who currently holds the post, finds himself under serious pressure after Forest's poor start to the season.

Forest are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, and Hughton's side have only managed a draw against Derby County this campaign in six outings.

And those poor results have seen Terry's name linked with the side despite Forest not yet sacking Hughton.

Terry has hit out at the speculation on his Instagram page, issuing a statement to his story.

"I just want to distance myself from the Nottingham Forest job, and all the speculation surrounding myself with the job," Terry said.

"Unfortunately I can't control the media, but it's important to know it has nothing to do with me whatsoever.

"Chris is the manager and someone I have a lot of respect for.

"I wish Chris and the team all the very best for the season.

"It's unfair when Chris is in a job to put my name into something."

Terry has never held the top job at a football club.

His only experience in management is at Aston Villa between 2018 and 2021, where he was the assistant after he hung up his boots at the club.

“I want to be as respectful to the manager and everyone at Aston Villa as I can and, having given my future serious consideration over the summer," he said after leaving.

"I genuinely don’t feel it is fair to move into a new season without being certain of seeing that through.

"My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully, take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager."

Hughton, on the other hand, is keen to keep his job at Forest, and after their most recent defeat, he said: “I have to be confident that I can turn this around.

"It’s my responsibility to get results for this club and bring our new signings up to speed."

“It’s small margins, we’re only losing games by one goal.”
