Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente this summer. Llorente isn’t the only player the Red Devils have been linked with though. Express Sport looks at how United could line up next season with a new-look side.

Goalkeeper – Henderson

Dean Henderson may have done enough in recent weeks to prove he should be given a chance of being United’s long-term No 1.

The England international has taken his opportunity with both hands, bouncing back from the small error in the first leg of the Europa League tie against AC Milan.

David de Gea has started the last 10 seasons as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

But the time may have come for the Spaniard to take a backseat and allow Henderson to flourish.

Defence – Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw

The defence sees one major addition in the form of France World Cup winner Raphael Varane.

Varane is out of contract at Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 so could be sold at the end of this season.

United are reported to be interested in the 27-year-old to form a partnership with club captain Harry Maguire.

Luke Shaw has surprised many with his resurgence this season and he has kept last summer’s signing Alex Telles out of the side more often than not.

United are in the market for a right-back to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, though the former Crystal Palace star is likely to remain as first choice for now.

Midfield – McTominay, Llorente; Fernandes

Marcos Llorente is not a defensive-midfielder but would likely take up a spot in the midfield two at United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to move away from playing two holders and having a more dynamic player such as Llorente would provide that.

Reports from Spanish outlet AS say United have bid £68.5million for the 26-year-old.

Scott McTominay is the most likely candidate to slot in alongside Llorente to provide more defensive stability.

Llorente can play further forward but Bruno Fernandes has made the No 10 spot his own as long as he remains fit.

Attack – Greenwood, Haaland, Rashford

Signing a striker is a priority for United this summer and they get no better than Erling Haaland at the moment.

Haaland would spearhead United’s attack with a player either side of him.

Marcus Rashford would play off the left and Mason Greenwood on the opposite side.

Anthony Martial would have to fight for a spot in this XI.
