Gnabry teases Arsenal claiming they are ‘favourite’ for Premier League return
Serge Gnabry has admitted that Arsenal would be “the favourite” if he was to make a dramatic return to the Premier League.
The Bayern Munich star left the Gunners in 2016, but only after an ill-feted loan with West Brom, when Tony Pulis suggested he was not up to the required level.
While the Baggies would drop out of the top-flight, Gnabry went on to win a pair of Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, the Champions League and the Super Cup.
"You always hear a little bit about it or people in the U.K. ask me about it," he said to CBS Sports about those Pulis comments. "It looks like it won't stop, all I can say is I'm proud of the journey I've taken.
"To be a Champions League winner now when a couple of years back I was doubted is obviously a great thing for me.
"Of course after having struggled a lot it was difficult to pick myself up. The biggest thing is that self-confidence, that I knew what I was capable of. I never lost that. Obviously, you doubt it at some points but I never lost it.”
Despite his stunning form for the German champions, the 25-year-old is adamant is still has doubters he wants to prove wrong.
"There's always a point to prove," Gnabry told CBS Sports. "I hope we haven't hit the pinnacle yet. The mentality of us players, of myself and I'm sure the team is to aim for another treble.
"Of course we all know it's going to be hard, but we have a lot of quality and the motivation is sometimes going to be difficult but every one of us picks the other up. I'm sure we can achieve a lot more than just having one great season."
Arsenal fans love what Mikel Arteta did on Emirates pitch with players after Molde win
Gnabry helped to dismantle Chelsea and Tottenham in European competitions in recent years and admitted, his respect for his old team made it all the more sweeter. ”Of course, because of my Arsenal history against Spurs you have a little bit more motivation."
And when asked about a return to England’s top-flight he admitted a return to the Emirates would be "the favorite".
After winning all he can with Bayern, his determination to prove a point could bring him back to north London and the Premier League.
