Frank Lampard given boost as Thomas Tuchel eyed by potential Barcelona chief

The shadow of Thomas Tuchel has been looming large at Chelsea but the German is now a candidate for the Barcelona job, according to reports.

PSG axed the German last month less than six months after he'd led them to the Champions League Final.

Tuchel's stock remains high though and he has been linked with the Blues hot seat as they struggle for form.

Bild claimed that Roman Abramovich would've considered sacking Lampard had Chelsea lost to Aston Villa last time out.

They were forced to settle for a point meaning it is just one win in five league games for the west Londoners.

Tuchel is thought to be on their radar with the German keen on working in England.

But Bild also understand that the former Borussia Dortmund boss is the preferred candidate of a budding Barcelona president.

Elections for the top job at the Nou Camp are set to take place on January 24 with each individual pitching different ideas to sway the vote their way.

Barcelona's struggles off the pitch are mirrored by those on it and a trophyless season is on the cards.

Ronald Koeman signed a two-year deal in the summer and a horror showing may lead to him getting the boot.

That would open the door for Tuchel to take over at the Nou Camp, an opportunity he would be unlikely to turn down.

Former club president Joan Laporta is among several names looking to assume power.

He though has signalled a desire to bring Pep Guardiola back to the Nou Camp having been the man to appoint him back in 2008.

Major factors in the election are set to be the future of Lionel Messi and the club's financial situation.

Players were asked to take a pay cut as the Catalans count the cost of the global pandemic.
