Ex-Premier League star who cost whopping £13.5m joins League One side Morecambe
Former Premier League star Oumar Niasse, who cost Everton a whopping £13.5million in 2016, has joined League One side Morecambe.
The Toffees splashed the aforementioned sum on Niasse in seven years ago from Lokomotiv Moscow. The 32-year-old scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists in 42 games for the Russian side before heading to Goodison Park.
But he left his scoring boots in Russia and only managed to bag nine goals in the same amount of games across the four years he spent at Everton, until he was released by the club in 2020 upon the end of his contract. During his time at Goodison Park, the former Senegal international also had loan stints at Hull and Cardiff.

He subsequently joined Huddersfield in 2021, and recently had a spell with Burton Albion last year which didn't work out either. And now the striker's been given another chance by League One side Morecambe who announced his switch on Friday, on their website.
Niasse joined The Shrimps amid their battle for survival in the third-tier English division. They loiter just above the relegation zone in 21st position, but he's relishing the battle ahead. Following his transfer, Niasse beamed: "It's fantastic to be here and to join the club. I see the challenge that is ahead of us, but it is one I look forward to."

His move comes following Morecambe's takeover by 20-year-old businessman Sarbjot Johal, who beat boxing icon Tyson Fury to the punch to purchase the club in February. Johal became the youngest person to own a team in England with the shrewd business move.
The club's chairman Graham Howse confirmed Johal's purchase on Morecambe's website where he said: “It is fair to say the sale process hasn't progressed as quickly as we all would have liked – that said, my understanding is that exciting times are ahead both on and off the pitch.
“Sarbjot Johal is eager to start the project to take the Club on to a new level, subject to satisfactorily navigating the EFL Owners and Directors' test. Sarbjot, through his company Sarb Capital, has recently purchased equity in the Club, injecting more than useful income into us. I am, along with Sarbjot, keen that the process should now move on at pace to come to a positive conclusion.”
