England fans left in hysterics by steward’s comedy face mask caught on camera
England fans were left in hysterics during Wednesday’s Euro 2020 warm-up match against Austria after spotting a steward wearing a comedy face mask.
The Three Lions won the kickabout 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bukayo Sako, although boss Gareth Southgate had little to smile about after the match.
Southgate is sweating on the fitness of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star limped off with a thigh injury in the closing stages.
That news doesn’t bode well for England – but one steward couldn’t wipe the grin off his face throughout the match after turning up with a comedy face mask.
The bespectacled joker was spotted during the 30th minute of the match, and viewers on Twitter couldn’t get enough of his amusing face covering.
One wrote: “Not 100% sure what's going on with that stewards face.”
Someone else joked: “Has recently been given a new identity and told to blend in but doesn’t know how.”
“Impersonating Mr potatohead”, was the view of a third person.
While a fourth said: “Told his wife he was just off out for some milk.”
Despite the stewards’ best efforts at stealing the limelight, the night belonged to Arsenal youngster Saka.
His goal ensured England got their Euro 2020 preparations off to the perfect start at the Riverside.
After the match, the 19-year-old winger couldn’t have been happier at how his evening had gone.
He said: “The biggest moment was getting called up for England the first time and now to score the goal it sounds nice, it's an amazing feeling for me.”
“You dream of that as a kid, scoring for your country, coming through the age groups with England so to now do it here and score for the seniors it's an amazing feeling and I hope I can have this feeling many more times.”
