Declan Rice 'is likely to join Arsenal this summer'

Declan Rice ‘is likely to join Arsenal this summer’ after West Ham ‘failed to convince the midfielder that the club are progressing’, with the England star ‘almost CERTAIN to leave’ as the Hammers battle relegation

  • West Ham have slid to 17th in the Premier League table after a poor campaign
  • They are only above the drop zone on goal difference with 12 games to play
  • Midfielder Declan Rice is ‘likely to leave the club and join Arsenal in the summer’

Declan Rice is ‘almost certain’ to leave West Ham this summer, with the midfielder ‘keen on a move to Arsenal’ as he looks to play at a higher level.

The Hammers are currently 17th in the league, and only goal difference separates them from the relegation zone after a disappointing start to the season.

It looked as though they may have turned a corner after beating Nottingham Forest 4-0 last month, but followed the result with a heavy loss to Brighton and a draw with Aston Villa. They have now won just two Premier League games since October.

Their star midfielder looks set to leave the struggling side, with the Guardian reporting he is ‘almost certain to move this summer, with Arsenal ‘likely’ to be his next club.

They claim it comes because Rice has not been convinced the club are ‘progressing’, and feels he must leave in order to play at a higher level.

Things looked very different last season, as the Hammers  finished seventh in the league and reached  Europa League final.

David Moyes valued the midfielder at £150 million at the time as Rice established himself as one of the top players in the league.

His stock has since fallen following an inconsistent season, but Arsenal are still willing to pay £80 million.

The Gunners were keen on bringing in Moises Caicedo, who recently signed a new four-year deal with Brighton, in January but signed Jorginho instead after failing to secure a move.

While their current first choice midfield pairing of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been excellent this season, they are 29 and 30 respectively, while Jorginho is 31.

The 24-year-old Rice could be a long term solution at the Emirates, as Mikel Arteta looks to add to a young side closing in on what could be an extraordinary league success.

Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham on Sunday restored their five point lead at the top of the table with 11 games remaining.

They will next be in league action against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
