Dean Smith discusses Ezri Konsa’s future amid Tottenham and Liverpool links
Dean Smith insists Ezri Konsa's head won't be turned by transfer talk.
Centre-back Konsa has developed into a consistent Premier League performer in the last year.
It has seen the Aston Villa star,23, linked with summer move to Tottenham and Liverpool after signing from Brentford in July 2019 for £12million.
His solid form this season has helped Villa boast the second best defensive record in the top-flight of just 24 goals conceded – bettered only by Manchester City (15).
Konsa has played a key role alongside defensive partner Tyrone Mings , with Emiliano Martinez also excellent in goal.
Konsa is under contract until 2023 and Villa are likely to offer the defender improved terms to tie him down.
Villa boss Smith, who managed Konsa previously at the Bees, assessed: “Everyone can see we feel we are having a good season so far.
“When teams have good seasons, players get linked with everybody.
“He is one of our players who have been consistent this season.
“It is his first proper Premier League season.
“He has cut out mistakes and been a consistent performer for us and played to a level where I know he can.
“But there is also certainly room for improvement.
“He is aware of that and enjoying himself at the moment.
“So he certainly won't get distracted by any links."
Villa boss Smith will be forced into a defensive change on Sunday at home to Leicester as right-back Matty Cash has a hamstring injury after limping off against Brighton last weekend.
Smith added: “I expect him to be out three to four weeks.”
