Cristiano Ronaldo smirks as fans chant his name after scoring 800th career goal

Cristiano Ronaldo let out a smirk after he netted his 800th career goal on Thursday evening against Arsenal.

Following his now trademark celebration, and the entirety of Old Trafford chanting his name, Ronaldo allowed himself a moment to soak it all in.

And Manchester United fans were quick to notice the show of emotion from the megastar.

Ronaldo's 800th strike was in a typically clinical finish, and all the 36-year-old had to do was turn the ball goal-wards.

Importantly for United, the strike notched the Red Devils ahead in the clash for the first time, after Arsenal had opened the scoring in controversial fashion.

One fan tweeted: "The smile on Ronaldo’s face," before adding the big eyes emoji.

"The smile on his face, I love you, Ronaldo," another tweeted.

A third tweeted: "I love everything about Cristiano Ronaldo and how he takes this football thing. The most visibly angry, when he's not getting goals. Watch him smile like a toddler, when he begins to get them."

"Milestone puts a smile on his face after a long time," a fourth added.

No.801 soon followed the milestone after Martin Odegaard brought Fred down in the box.

A couple of minutes beforehand Odegaard had been the hero for Arsenal, cancelling out Ronaldo's first.

Ronaldo couldn't miss from the spot as he drove the ball down the middle of the goal.

The 36-year-old missed a golden opportunity to grab his hat-trick, but his shot trickled wide.

Ronaldo was withdrawn in the 88th minute after looking to be struggling with his hamstring.

Anthony Martial was brought on to finish the game in his place.
