Chelsea’s two different swap offers for Matthijs de Ligt ‘rejected by Juventus’

Chelsea have reportedly had two different swap offers for Matthijs de Ligt rejected by Juventus.

The Blues are looking to sign De Ligt, 22, by using a player-plus-cash deal. According to Tuttosport, they made a £34million bid which would also see either Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic head to Turin.

But that has been knocked back, with Juve boss Max Allegri not keen on the forwards. Neither Werner, who signed for £47.5m in 2020, nor Pulisic, who signed for £57.6m in 2019, have set the world alight at Stamford Bridge and both have been linked to the exit door this summer.

Chelsea chiefs are now looking to use them to bring in fresh blood, with De Ligt's price tag said to be a hefty £86million. That would take a significant chunk out of the £200million budget promised to Thomas Tuchel.

It's been claimed the German boss could be treated to up to six new signings following Todd Boehly's takeover of the west London club. Defensive additions are the priority following the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Dutch international De Ligt is an attractive option and reports have suggested he has handed a transfer request in to the Old Lady following failed contract talks to extend his deal past 2024.

Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS earlier this month, he said: "There are talks ongoing between me and Juventus. Once the right moment arrives, I will decide to extend or to look further."

Juve don't need to sell him this summer, though, which may force Chelsea to look elsewhere. And they also face competition for De Ligt from Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag eyeing a reunion with his former Ajax centre-back.
