Chelsea’s potential starting XI after Silva, Gimenez and Havertz transfers

Chelsea could have a very different starting XI if Thiago Silva, Jose Gimenez and Kai Havertz are signed.

Frank Lampard has been keen to bolster his squad after a sturdy first season in charge.

The Blues finished fourth in the Premier League and secured Champions League football after a year where they could not sign players.

However, the Chelsea legend has several areas in the squad that he is desperate to improve – not least his backline.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been shocking in defence this season and has cost them dearly in countless matches throughout.

Chelsea have conceded 54 times in the Premier League, the most in the top ten.

Several players have been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge but Lampard’s top target Declan Rice appears to be a dead end.

West Ham are demanding too much money and Lampard has to be careful with his money as he looks to sign other targets.

Silva could provide a cheaper option as he leaves Paris St-Germain after the Champions League final and has been offered to the Blues.

The Brazil international would provide experience and leadership, something lacking in Chelsea’s backline.

However, he turns 36 in September and Lampard would likely need another centre-back – with Atletico Madrid ace Gimenez linked.

The Uruguay international admitted he is a huge Chelsea fan and would help solve their problems at set-pieces.

Another player that has been heavily linked to Stamford Bridge is Germany international Havertz.

Bayer Leverkusen are holding out for £90m and club chief Marina Granovskaia has been working on a deal that would benefit all parties.

The midfielder has already agreed personal terms and it appears only a matter of time before he is in a Chelsea kit.
