Chelsea transfer roundup as Havertz deal making progress and Tomori bidding war
After an early flurry of activity in the transfer market which saw them complete deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Chelsea have experienced what is, by their standards at least, something of a slowdown.
While no other club has generated quite as many headlines this summer, there have not been any new signings since Werner’s transfer was officially confirmed in June.
That could soon change, however, with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia at the centre of a tangled web of negotiations.
Excitingly for Chelsea fans, there seems to have been movement on the Kai Havertz front.
Here’s all the latest transfer gossip coming out of Stamford Bridge…
Havertz deal making progress
Chelsea have held further talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a fee for Kai Havertz, reports The Guardian.
Havertz still has his heart set on moving to Stamford Bridge and, as things stand, a deal looks likely. Negotiations are ongoing but the two clubs seem to be making encouraging progress.
Chelsea submitted an initial offer of €65m (£58.6m) plus €15m in add-ons earlier this week, but Bayer want up to €100m.
Chelsea have since moved closer to Bayer’s valuation, however, and the two sides held a productive meeting on Wednesday.
Granovskaia initiates Tomori bidding war
With multiple clubs interested in signing Fikayo Tomori, Granovskaia is looking to drive up his transfer fee by starting a bidding war.
That’s according to L’Equipe, via GetFrenchFootballNews, with Chelsea’s transfer chief apparently encouraging competition for his signature.
Tomori, 22, has attracted interest from Ligue 1 side Rennes, though they face a difficult task to get a deal over the line.
Despite being a regular under Frank Lampard while he was on loan at Derby County, Tomori struggled to nail down a starting spot last season and is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Brown could sign new contract
Izzy Brown joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan on Thursday, and The Star reports that the Chelsea youngster could sign a new contract this week.
With Brown’s current deal set to expire next summer he could well follow in the footsteps of Trevoh Chalobah, who extended his contract until 2023 before signing on loan for Lorient on Tuesday.
While Brown has only made one senior appearance for Chelsea, they will not want to lose him on a free transfer.
He spent last season on loan at Luton Town, where he helped to preserve the club’s Championship status.
