Chelsea reach ‘total agreement’ over Malang Sarr contract to be signed soon

Malang Sarr is reportedly close to joining Chelsea having left Nice after failing to agree a new contract with the Ligue 1 side.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is eager to bolster his defence and is believed to have eyed 21-year-old Sarr as a free agent.

And it seems Sarr could be arriving at Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later, though would then gain experience out on lona.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Chelsea have decided to sign Malang Sarr as a free agent! Total agreement reached until June 2025.

“The club will now consider with Lampard to loan him out (many requests from Bundesliga clubs).

“Malang Sarr will sign his contract on next hours with Chelsea in London. He turned down bids from Italy and also had a talk with Lampard on last hours.

“Here we go!”

Sarr helped Nice to a fifth-placed finish in Ligue 1 – but struggled to maintain a regular place, being snubbed in the first part of the season.

While Chelsea have been looking to bolster their defence, Jamie Carragher has warned that their focus should be further back.

  • Chelsea owner Abramovich reconsidered Kai Havertz due to transfer clause

"Chelsea won't go no further unless they change their goalkeeper," he told Sky Sports.

"[Lampard] has done as much as he can, yes Frank's still in his early stages but those big signings can completely transform you as a team.

"I still think Chelsea need a defender, you see how many goals they've conceded. I think a lot of that is down to the goalkeeper being totally honest.

“You see a lot of centre-halves at Chelsea without seeing one really outstanding one, those are the areas that if they are going to challenge Liverpool and Man City they'll have to rectify in the summer.

"They are the worst team in the league defending corners. This is a massive problem for Chelsea.

"It sounds great and it gets supporters excited but it means nothing if you don't sort out that back three and certainly that goalkeeper."
