Chelsea handed Callum Hudson-Odoi boost ahead of crucial Liverpool clash

Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to be fit for Chelsea’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool this Thursday.

The Blues winger came off with a thigh injury in Sunday’s goalless draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel described the problem as a “minor injury” and insisted his decision to withdraw Hudson-Odoi was also a tactical choice.

Tuchel will take no chances with the England youngster ahead of Thursday’s trip to Anfield to face the reigning champions, who are struggling of late.

But the Blues remain optimistic that Hudson-Odoi will not be forced to miss the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Hudson-Odoi watched the second half on Sunday with an ice pack and heavy strapping around his left thigh after coming off at half time.

The 20-year-old made headlines for the wrong reasons after being substituted on and then off again at Southampton on February 20.

Tuchel criticised his attitude after that game, but Hudson-Odoi bounced back with a strong performance in the Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, team-mate Andreas Christensen says Chelsea must start beating rivals like United if they are to finish in the top four.

The Blues missed a chance to climb above West Ham into fourth spot on Sunday, and defender Christensen says they must do better.

After Liverpool, Chelsea face Everton and Leeds, and Christensen said: “We have to chase the top four together and we have to win these games to do that.
