Carragher says Man United are Harry Kane's only option to win a trophy
‘The only place he can go is Man United’: Jamie Carragher insists Harry Kane must LEAVE Spurs if he is to win a trophy and beat Alan Shearer’s goal record… as Thierry Henry says he ‘wouldn’t SLEEP at night’ if he ended his career without silverware
- Tottenham were booed off after a tame Champions League exit to AC Milan
- Defeat increases the focus on Harry Kane’s future amid Spurs’ trophy drought
- Jamie Carragher believes Man United represent his only option if he is to move
Jamie Carragher has claimed Manchester United represent Harry Kane’s only option if the Tottenham striker is to leave the club to pursue trophies and Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.
The focus on Kane’s future at Spurs has increased after the club suffered limp exits from the FA Cup and Champions League to Sheffield United and AC Milan in the past week.
Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to the reigning Italian champions over two legs extended the club’s trophy drought into a 15th year.
Carragher told CBS Sports this summer represents Kane’s last chance to move away from Spurs, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United having been linked to the 29-year-old.
The former Liverpool defender believes United are the only option, if Kane wants to win a trophy and surpass Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals, with the England captain just 59 behind.

‘Tottenham will always be there or thereabouts in terms of qualifying for the Champions League but will he win trophies? No,’ Carragher said.
‘If you’re asking me if he should leave to join a team to win a domestic cup or stay at Tottenham I think I would stay. But this is a guy who should be going deep in the Champions League every year, he’s that good.
‘Where does he go? That’s the big question. There’s not too many clubs there right now for him.
‘I think the only place he can go realistically is Manchester United. I don’t want to see him there for obvious reasons but Man City have [Erling] Haaland, Liverpool have [Darwin] Nunez, he can’t go to Arsenal or Chelsea.
‘He could go abroad but he will want that Premier League goal. He will be the top goalscorer if he stays in the Premier League and that is a pretty special achievement.
‘So if he stays in England, the only big team he can go to is Man United. But will they spend £100m for a guy who is nearly 30?’
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry claimed he would leave if he had been in Kane’s shoes.

Thierry Henry claimed he would leave had he been in the same situation as Kane in his career
Henry, who left the Gunners for Barcelona aged 29, claimed it would be tough to accept ending a career without silverware despite Kane’s haul of goals.
‘A player like that, a player of his calibre, should not talk about just his goals at the end of his career,’ Henry said.
‘If I was him, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if all I could talk about is my goals.
‘Listen, it’s a great achievement and I have massive respect for him – I think he’s outstanding. But if that’s the only thing you can bring to the table at the end of your career, that’s tough for me.’
