Bohemians defender Ian Morris emerges as favourite to take over at Shelbourne

Ian Morris has emerged as the new front-runner to become the next manager of Shelbourne.

The Bohemians player is also working as a youth development officer with his current club and has been heavily involved in their link-up with St Kevin’s Boys.

But it’s understood that Shels have identified Morris (31) as a suitable candidate to lead the First Division club forward.

The new Shels hierarchy want a young boss to replace Owen Heary with an emphasis on youth part of the Reds’ vision.

Drogheda supremo Tim Clancy was offered the job but turned it down over the weekend.

Morris has since entered the equation. He went to Leeds as a teenager and played with a variety of clubs across the water before coming home three years ago following an injury interrupted spell.

Last month he scored a stunning goal in the FAI Cup semi final loss to Cork City that was subsequently viewed around the world.
