Ben Chilwell to Chelsea set to be announced on Wednesday with deal ‘almost done’

Ben Chilwell looks set to be announced as a Chelsea player today in a deal worth £50m.

A deal between the club and Leicester was being worked on during the entirety of Tuesday evening and some early optimism had hoped to see a confirmation last night.

But an announcement now looks set for Wednesday after all parts of the deal were worked out.

The England international has been desperate to join the Blues ever since he heard Frank Lampard was interested.

The Chelsea boss made Chilwell his top target at left-back – a position he identified as one that needed strengthening.

Leicester had initially hoped to sell him for £80m – the same price-tag they slapped on Harry Maguire's head.

But their bargaining power was chipped away after they failed to land Champions League football, whereas Chelsea did.

It provided another reason for Chilwell, who is also a Blues fan, to angle for a move.

According to Sky Sports, the deal worth £50m looks set to be complete tomorrow and could be announced by the end of the day.

It comes amid an exciting week for the Stamford Bridge club, who also have deals in place for Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.

They will be added to new faces Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, who have already been training with the first team.

Chilwell's arrival leaves the future of Emerson Palmieri in an uncertain position.

Inter Milan are interested and a transfer could now ramp up after it was revealed that Antonio Conte would be staying at the club.

The Italian was the one pushing for the move after working with him in west London.

A deal worth as much as £27m could be agreed which would help go towards Chelsea's spending spree.

In total, Lampard is set to splash out more than £220m on players – and he is not done there.
