Barcelona could use Memphis Depay as a makeweight in a potential deal for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports. The Spanish giants recently acquired Ferran Torres from Manchester City but hope to add further firepower to their ranks this month.
Depay signed with Barca on a two-year deal in the summer, joining on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with French club Lyon.
The Dutch winger has struck eight times in 26 matches so far this season, however, could see his time at the Nou Camp cut short as new manager Xavi continues his squad rebuild.
The La Liga side have already brought in Torres from City and are widely reported to be keen on adding another Spanish forward in the form of Juventus frontman Morata.
According to SPORT, Barca could look to capitalise on the Italian side’s need for a new attacker by including Depay in a potential deal for the Juve forward.

The Old Lady, who are currently languishing in sixth in the Serie A standings, have looked short in front of goal this season following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United in the summer and were recently dealt a further blow.
Star forward Federico Chiesa is set to miss the reminder of this season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in Juve’s dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Jose Mourinho’s Roma on Sunday.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Zenit’s Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun is being considered as Chiesa’s replacement, but should Barcelona push to sign Morata, further attacking reinforcement would also be required.
A potential deal between the two clubs is further complicated by the fact Morata is currently on loan from Barca’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.
Despite growing suggestions the former Real Madrid and Chelsea striker could make a return to Spain with Barcelona, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was quick to dismiss talk of a transfer last week.
“Alvaro Morata stays here. He’s not leaving in January,” Allegri told reporters. “I had a face-to-face meeting with Alvaro and told him: you’re 100% staying.
“Aaron Ramsey’s now set to leave Juventus. We’re working on it, but there are no other changes or transfers in our plans, this is 99% sure.”
He added: “Again, Álvaro Morata will stay. That’s for sure. End of the topic.”
Despite claims Depay could be included within a swap deal, amid growing speculation that his future lies away from the Nou Camp, Xavi indicated the 27-year-old will have a role to play in Barca’s Spanish Super Cup El Clasico clash with fierce rivals Real Madrid on Wednesday.
“The same as everyone,” Xavi responded when asked about Depay’s importance. “In the end, those who merit a place gets one, there’s a lot of competition.
“Luckily we have several options with the first team and there’s real competition there. It’s about a meritocracy. Whoever deserves to play will pay.
“That’s what I’ve experienced. Whoever is better will play regardless of what their name is.”
