Arsenal star’s skill on international duty has Gunners fans piling in on Arteta

Leandro Trossard's impressive skill for Belgium has Arsenal fans slating Mikel Arteta for his sparing appearances in the starting XI.

Trossard, 28, has proven to be an impressive player for the Gunners over the last 18 months. He was quickly signed by the North Londoners after Chelsea pipped them to the signature of Mykhalo Mudryk in the January transfer window.

However, with the Ukrainian struggling since his approximate £89m move from Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal fans have been widely relieved they signed Trossard from Brighton and Hove Albion for £21m plus add-ons. Nevertheless, when all of Arteta's attackers are available, Trossard is usually behind Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in the pecking-order.

After his recent bit of wizardry during Belgium's 5-0 home victory against Azerbaijan, Arsenal fans laid into Arteta for not including him in his first team often enough. The forward reacted quickest to a loose ball that appeared just outside the Azerbaijan penalty area. As two defenders slid in to nick the ball, he stabbed his toe beneath it to lift it into the air and over their challenges.

While he was still in the air, he somehow prodded it with his laces to set himself up for a chance. After watching a video of his genius bit of improvisation, Arsenal fans demanded Arteta, 41, give Trossard a permanent place in their starting XI. "Arteta has blood on his hands for benching him whenever [Gabriel] Jesus is injured," one angry Gunner wrote.

"This gimmick of waiting till #14 (Eddie Nketiah) gets injured to start Trossard needs to stop," another commented, before a third tweeted: "Arteta watches this magician train all week just to give him 25 min of holding width sessions."

A fourth then appeared to go one step further by insinuating they want Arteta to run down his contract and leave when they said: "Arteta has this demon baking off on the bench for Nketiah. Let this coach run down his contract and bring me somebody that understands the beauty of the sport.

A fifth said: "How Nketiah started ahead of him for as long as he did remains one of the biggest mysteries in the club’s history," before another described Trossard as the: "Most technically gifted player we have."

Trossard has helped himself to seven goals and 12 assists in 36 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival.
