Arsenal are reportedly closing in on their first two signings of the summer transfer window, which could spark a couple of exits from the Emirates. Benfica full-back Nuno Tavares looks set to join Arsenal as back-up to Kieran Tierney. Meanwhile, Anderlecht captain Albert Sambi Lokonga is looking likely to move to north London too.

Arsenal are in need of left-back cover, with Tierney struggling with injury problems during his first two seasons at the club.

The departure of Sead Kolasinac to Schalke on loan in January led to the likes of Cedric Soares and Granit Xhaka being used as makeshift left-backs in Tierney’s absence.

Kolasinac is set to return to Arsenal this summer, with a year remaining on his contract.

However, his future at the club looks bleak, especially once the deal for Tavares is announced.

The Guardian says an announcement regarding Tavares is imminent, with paperwork set to be signed on Wednesday.

Tavares is set to cost around £6.9million and can also play at right-back.

The Standard says Tavares’ arrival would then open the door for Kolasinac to leave on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, The Guardian says Sambi Lokonga is set to join Arsenal for around £15m.

The final discussions surrounding the Belgium under-21 international is how much Anderlecht would receive from any future sale.

Sambi Lokonga is a central midfielder and would then make Xhaka’s departure from Arsenal more likely.

Serie A side Roma have been in discussions to sign Xhaka for several weeks.

Italian football journalist Gianluigi Longari says Roma general manager Tiago Pinto will travel to Milan in an attempt to accelerate the negotiations for Xhaka.

So it could soon be two in, two out of Arteta’s first-team squad.

Arsenal’s summer transfer business is unlikely to stop at Tavares and Sambi Lokonga though.

Brighton defender Ben White remains a top target, with talks at an advanced stage.

However, a deal is unlikely to be completed until after England’s participation at Euro 2020.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale remains a target for Arsenal.

However, the Blades have slapped a £40m price tag on the former Bournemouth stopper.

Ramsdale is also with the England squad so progress is unlikely anytime soon.

Interest in Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana appears to have cooled.
