Arsenal ‘join transfer race’ for Kostantinos Tsimikas as Kieran Tierney cover

Arsenal have reportedly swooped for Olympiakos left-back Kostantinos Tsimikas as they seek to strengthen amid Kieran Tierney's injury.

The Gunners are praying Sead Kolsaniac stays fit for the rest of the season as the club's only out-and-out left-sided full-back available at present.

But Arsenal are keen to bring in another left-back before the end of the month and have turned their attention to Tsimikas.

Correire dello Sport claim Napoli want the 23-year-old as a replacement for Faouzi Ghoulam, who is set to leave in the next two weeks.

The Italian publication write that Arsenal have emerged as late contenders to win the race for Tsimikas.

The Greek star has made 14 appearances in the league for Olympiakos this season, with the club sitting one point clear at the top of the table.

Reports this week suggested Tsimikas was ready to leave the club amid transfer interest.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a host of centre-backs in recent weeks, including Manchester City's John Stones.

But new boss Mikel Arteta has rubbished reports he is looking to bring the England star to London.

"John is a player that I really like and I followed. We signed him when I was at Manchester City and I worked with him for many years and know him well," he said on Friday.

"When I look at centre-backs he has many attributes that I like from one, but we’re not interested.

"Yeah we have a lot of injuries at the back. The fact as well that Calum got the big injury. Obviously that is modifying our plans.

"It’s what we have, it’s the situation, this can happen. Between December and January it’s very common.

"We have to live with it, this is what we have.

"We have to put 11 players out on the pitch on Saturday and I’m sure we will.

"They will try their best and I will try to select the ones that are in my opinion the best fit for the game."

Asked whether he has a transfer wish list of targets, he added: "I have yes. You need to have one always just in case!"
