Arsenal face rivals for White transfer as Betis ‘exploit Gunners track record’

Just like last year, everything points to a busy summer of interest in Brighton defender Ben White.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with numerous Premier League clubs after a successful 2019/20 season with Leeds United before choosing to pen a new four-year deal with the Seagulls.

But another impressive campaign has only increased his admirers and long-term suitors Arsenal are facing competition from further afield to sign the highly-rated centre-back.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are reportedly targeting Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, but the Spanish club are confident they can drive a hard bargain on account of Arsenal's recent transfer business.

Also featuring an update on Joe Willock, here is Saturday's Arsenal transfer round-up.

Real Betis hatch plan

Arsenal will table a bid for Real Betis enforcer Guido Rodriguez next month, according to reports in Spain.

The Argentina international has been a rock in midfield for the Seville club this season, making 30 appearances in La Liga to catch the eye of Emirates chiefs.

But El Desmarque claims Betis will look to exploit the Gunners' track record of signing players with hefty release clauses.

The example they single out is Thomas Partey, who moved to north London last October after Arsenal paid his £45million release clause at Atletico Madrid.

Rodriguez, 27, has an eye-watering £69.5million release clause included in the contract he signed when joining from Mexican side Club America last year.

And Arsenal will reportedly need to cough up that entire sum in order to sign Rodriguez.

Race for Brighton ace hotting up

Borussia Dortmund are the latest team linked with a move for Arsenal target Ben White.

The Sun claims the Bundesliga giants have joined the Gunners, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in the chase for the Brighton centre-back.

White was heavily linked with a move away from the Amex last summer but decided to stay with the Seagulls, continuing his development with 34 appearances this season.

The Englishman has been picked out by Gareth Southgate as a future star and is believed to be available for £35million this summer.

Newcastle keen on Willock stay

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce says Arsenal loanee Joe Willock "ticks all the boxes" and that he would like the midfielder to extend his stay on Tyneside.

Willock, 21, has netted three vital goals in his last three games for the Magpies – coming off the bench to score on each occasion – since his January switch to St James' Park.

And Bruce told reporters on Friday: "He doesn’t like being called that (super sub) by the way, and if we can get him for next year, he won’t be a super sub, he’ll be playing!

"We are delighted for him. I’m pleased for Joe, he has the football world talking about him. That was key for him to show what he’s got.

"We’d love to keep him if we can. That is obviously a conversation we have to have with Arsenal, with respect to them.

"He is 21 and he ticks all the boxes as far as I am concerned."
