Ted Kravitz shares incredible price it would take Ferrari to land Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton on difficult season for Mercedes in November

Sky Sports F1 pundit Ted Kravitz has told Ferrari the price that would it take to lure Lewis Hamilton away from Mercedes, as his contract with the Silver Arrows expires at the end of the season. Ferrari are reportedly set to offer the seven-time F1 world champion a £40million deal to race for them next year, as he could be paired with Charles Leclerc.

Ferrari president John Elkann is said to be in close contact with Hamilton as the Brit will ponder whether Mercedes have given him the chance to eclipse his hero Michael Schumacher and claim an eighth title. The 38-year-old has already complained about his car this campaign and is currently sat fourth in the drivers’ standings – ahead of both Ferrari drivers.

Kravitz, however, does not feel that the £40m offered to Hamilton will be enough to get him to turn his back on Toto Wolff and Mercedes, but felt that if the amount was doubled then Hamilton could be persuaded to join Ferrari.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Kravitz explained: “Firstly, I think the £40m offer is a bit of a low-ball offer for Lewis Hamilton. It’s probably £5m less than what he’s on at the moment – and is something Mercedes are going to offer as part of not only the remainder of his driving career but also a longer-term association with the Mercedes brand which is valuable to Lewis.

“They are after the best and the biggest in Formula 1 at the moment as they seek to rebuild so it shouldn’t be a surprise if they offer Lewis Hamilton everything. If it was £80m that John Elkann had said then that would get people’s attention.

“I don’t think he’s likely to go, maybe if he wins the elusive eighth at Mercedes once they get the car right eventually then potentially he might go and see if he can win another one with Ferrari but he may be into his 40s by then.”

Wolff appears unconcerned by reports linking Hamilton away from Mercedes, however, as he stated that the Brit is not tempted to leave for a rival team. “These rumours come up every two years when we have to sign a new contract,” he recently told Austrian outlet Osterreich. “But none of this is true. We discuss normally, without any time pressure.

“It’s just uncomfortable that two friends, two blood brothers who have been through thick and thin for ten years, suddenly have to discuss money. I’m firmly convinced that we’ll find each other, there’s not a millimetre of doubt for me. I can’t imagine anything else.

“If we give Lewis a competitive car, he will win for a long time. Look at Tom Brady and what he was still capable of in his 40s.”
