Carlos Sainz caught in robbery chaos and Lewis Hamilton punished

Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025

The Italian Grand Prix produced plenty of shocks on Sunday as Carlos Sainz snatched pole position away from Red Bull before battling his Ferrari team-mate hard for the final step of the podium in the closing stages of the race.

The Spanish driver found himself coming out of that battle victorious after several close shaves with Charles Leclerc, giving the Tifosi something to shout about at their home track as Ferrari made it two podiums in three races.

For Red Bull and Max Verstappen there was plenty to celebrate out front. The Dutchman romped to his tenth consecutive Grand Prix victory, breaking Sebastian Vettel and etching his name into the F1 history books.

There was less to enjoy for Lewis Hamilton, who was given a five-second time penalty following a collision with McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri. The seven-time world champion finished the race in P6 behind his team-mate.
