Notre Dame QB Ian Book to miss Florida State game, reports say
Notre Dame is riding high with a perfect 9-0 record and the No. 3 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, but preserving both come Saturday against Florida State (4-5) got a bit trickier Thursday.
According to multiple reports, starting quarterback Ian Book will miss the matchup against the Seminoles in South Bend with a rib injury he suffered in a win over Northwestern last week. Backup Brandon Wimbush is expected to lead the Fighting Irish with Book on the bench.
Book, a junior, is believed to have suffered the injury in the first quarter against the Wildcats. He finished the game with 343 passing yards and two touchdowns and added a 23-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter.
However, lingering effects from that first-quarter blow will force Wimbush into action.
Wimbush has started 16 games over the last two seasons (12 wins), including the first three games of the 2018 season. Notre Dame’s success through those three games was somewhat in spite of Wimbush as he completed only 55.2 percent of his passes with only one touchdown and four interceptions.

Book took over the starting role against Wake Forest and has since completed 74.5 percent of his passes for 15 touchdowns and four interceptions.
