LSU finishes No. 1 ahead of Clemson in the final NCAA Re-Rank 1-130
LSU ends the season No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-130 after beating Clemson 42-25 to win the national championship and become just the second team since 1897 to finish 15-0 in a season.
The Tigers began the season No. 6 in the preseason Re-Rank 1-130 and steadily climbed the ladder to join Clemson and Ohio State to give the College Football Playoff three unbeaten teams for the first time in the format's history. In winning the title, LSU topped the Re-Rank's preseason No. 1 in Clemson and the team that spent much of November in the top spot in Ohio State.

Clemson comes in at No. 2 after suffering its first loss in more than two years. Rounding out the top five is No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Oregon, with the Ducks rebounding from a painful loss to Arizona State in November to end the year with wins against No. 13 Utah and No. 15 Wisconsin.
Then comes No. 6 Oklahoma, which was walloped by LSU in the Peach Bowl. Alabama lands at No. 7 after a Citrus Bowl win against Michigan, followed by Penn State, Baylor and Florida.
The Top 25 is heavy on teams from the Group of Five ranks in No. 12 Appalachian State, No. 14 Memphis, No. 18 Navy, No. 22 Boise State, No. 24 Florida Atlantic and No. 25 Central Florida.
