Kellen Winslow II: Rape allegations are ‘money grab’

Former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II spoke publicly Tuesday for the first time since being accused of raping three women and maintained his innocence while saying he believes the chargers are an attempt to take his money.

“I’m innocent,” Winslow told Fox 5 San Diego. “To the people who know me out there, who know what type of person I am, know my character, my NFL friends and family, just my regular friends and family …. they know who I am. And I’m an innocent guy. I’m an innocent man.”

He added: “It’s a money grab, and unfortunately that’s the society we live in now.” 

Winslow, 35, had been set for arraignment in San Diego Superior Court on Tuesday on three rape charges (two from 2018 and one from 2003), but the hearing was rescheduled for Nov. 15. He has been charged with felony counts of kidnapping, forcible rape and rape of an unconscious person, according to Fox 5.

Winslow was accused of kidnapping and raping a 54-year-old hitchhiker in March and a 58-year-old homeless woman in May and he is bound to stand trial for those incidents.

He also allegedly exposed himself in a public place in May and was charged with burglary in June. He was involved in alleged break-ins at the home of a 71-year-old woman on June 1 and an 86-year-old woman on June 7, according to ESPN.

Winslow, who last played in the NFL in 2013, is currently free on $2 million bail and could face life in prison if he is convicted on all counts against him.
