Social media roasts ESPN’s biggest name
He’s ESPN’s highest-paid sportscaster, but on Wednesday morning social media was quick to put Stephen A. Smith under the blowtorch.
As host of daily show First Take, Smith and co-host Max Kellerman were discussing what moves the Los Angeles Lakers could make heading towards the NBA Trade Deadline.

The Lakers currently sit on top of the Western Conference with a 33-7 record, five games clear of the second placed Utah Jazz.
With LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way the Lakers have positioned themselves as one of the legitimate contenders in the league.
But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from going into overdrive as the Trade Deadline approaches, with Kyle Kuzma the player constantly floated as the piece to be moved.
On Wednesday’s show the two men discussed what the Lakers could be searching for as the final piece to their puzzle.
After stating the recent production from Kuzma has encouraged him, Smith caught heat for his trade proposal which had him sending the Lakers forward to the Phoenix Suns.
“I love Kyle Kuzma and I want him to stay a Laker,” Smith began.

“But we talking basketball here Max and if I could package Kuzma with a multitude of players and even a pick and I can get myself Devin Booker to join Anthony Davis and LeBron James would I do that? Hell yes.
“I love Devin Booker and I think what has happened to him in Phoenix is criminal until they hired Monte Williams.
“You could say LeBron James has three to four years left, the future of the Lakers could potentially be Anthony Davis and Devin Booker. What the hell is wrong with that?
“I would entertain it if I could pull it off, I’d do it. But they need something like that to go up against the (Los Angeles) Clippers.”
The deal was quickly dragged through the mud on social media with fans ripping into Smith for believing a deal with Kuzma as the centre piece could come close to landing a player of Booker’s ilk.

Smith later touched on the ludicrous trade proposal when he conducted a Q&A with his social media followers.
A user put the question to Smith: “what drug were you on when you thought Booker for Kuzma and a 1st is a good deal for both sides?”
“Look, it ain’t my damn fault you can’t comprehend what the hell I’m saying,” Smith says in reply.
“It was asking me, the question was about what I think the Lakers need and what would be my wish list.
“I never said a deal was happening, I never said it would be fair for both sides or anything like that.
“That’s you adlibbing because evidently you don’t have enough better things to do with your damn life. So you want to make up something that I said that I didn’t say … get a life. Happy New Year.”
