Sir Mo Farah will not race in the 10,000m event at the Olympic Games after failing to hit the qualifying time.

Farah was even beaten by another Brit in Marc Scott in the European Championships race in Birmingham on Saturday evening.

The loss marks Farah's first defeat at the distance for 10 years.

Farah ran the race with a time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds, some 22 seconds off the pace which would have bagged him a place in Tokyo this summer.

It means his hopes of being taken to the Olympics are now on life support.
