Conor McGregor posts cryptic tweet to send fans crazy

Conor McGregor has teased UFC fans that he could be set for a sensational comeback later this year.

The Irish superstar hasn't stepped inside the Octagon since he was beaten by Russian lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

Then, in March this year, he announced his shock retirement from professional fighting only to backtrack on the announcement weeks later.

In recent weeks there has been plenty of talk over a potential return to the sport in which he is considered one of the all-time greats, with rumours his opponent could be Justin Gaethje.

And on Monday morning, McGregor fuelled speculation that he'll compete this year by tweeting: "Dublin, December 14."

However, there has been no official announcement from his camp and it is unclear whether this indicates that the Notorious will have a home bout in three months' time.

Should this return materialise, it would require a schedule shake-up from the fight company as UFC 245 is due to take place in Las Vegas on the same date.

McGregor, meanwhile, has refused to get involved in a war of words with Gaethje after his UFC rival snubbed him over a blockbuster bout.

Gaethje knocked out Donald Cerrone in Vancouver on Saturday night by stopping his rival in the first round.

A clash with McGregor looks the next logical fight for Gaethje, but instead he snubbed the Irishman and called for a UFC title shot.

McGregor, however, avoided biting back at his rival and instead took to his Twitter account to post a serious-looking snap.

The UFC superstar donned his McGregor-branded training gear as he posed in the back of a car, a picture which was posted on social media without a caption.
