Yankees manager Aaron Boone confronts umpires about Phillies fans using air horns outside stadium

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has little fear in standing up for his players and making sure they are protected. He proved that again Thursday, and not because of anything the Philadelphia Phillies' did, but what their fans outside Citizens Bank Park were doing.

According to the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcast, a group of Phillies fans — dubbed the "Fandemic Crew" — have congregated beyond center field to cheer from afar since the opening weekend series against the Miami Marlins. And during the third inning of the Yankees-Phillies series finale, the "Fandemic Crew" broke out the air horns while New York was batting.

That led to Boone leaving his perch in the Yankees' dugout to plead his case with the umpiring crew.

"In the environment we're in, it's almost like a golf environment … so I thought it was a timing thing," Boone said. "I didn't necessarily know if (the umpires) could do anything about it. I didn't know who or where it was coming from. It was something I at least wanted to point out."

The fans' tactic proved successful, as Phillies left-hander Zack Elfin retired the side in order that inning.

On Wednesday, the "Fandemic Crew" went so far as to enlist the services of a drumline.

"The drumline (Wednesday) was crazy," Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery said, per NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The Phillies players seem to appreciate the passion from fans.

"They had the horn going pretty well tonight and I heard a few of their chants," said catcher JT Realmuto, who hit a three-run homer in the Phillies' 5-4 victory. "It’s fun."
