A Randwick stable has been put into isolation after a COVID-19 scare with a staff member on Wednesday morning.

Stable staff are being tested and Racing NSW has begun contact tracing, even though there has not yet been a positive test from the member of staff, who was feeling unwell but still attended trackwork on Wednesday morning.

Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel could not comment on the situation as the regulatory body started to put its COVID protocols into action.

There have already been COVID cases contained at the Rosehill and Warwick Farm training centres, which are in locked-down local government areas.

Randwick has been the only metropolitan track to continue to hold race meetings throughout Sydney’s lockdown. There is currently no threat of it being shut down at the moment and the meeting on the Kensington track will go ahead on Wednesday afternoon.

However, anyone deemed a close contact of the isolated stable has been stood down from going to Wednesday’s meeting.
