Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Moe on Thursday

Herald Sun form analyst Gilbert Gardiner runs the rule over the Thursday meeting at Moe.

BEST BET

RISING SPHERE (R6 No.5 – $3)

First-up last time was nabbed late by Godolphin youngster Dickin Medal, who goes around as the second favourite in a hot race at Caulfield on Saturday.

NEXT BEST

DUTY DYNASTY (R1 No.6 – $2.40)

Little brother of Group 1-winning filly Hungry Heart sailed away for the easiest of Cranbourne jumpout wins recently with big gaps to second, third and fourth. Short enough but clearly has ability. Mark Zahra’s only ride for the day.

SPIRIT OF GIVING (R3 No.7 – $6)

Still a maiden after nine starts but rattled home last time out at Bairnsdale to run second after settling near last. Extra 100m suits and drawn to get a nice run in transit.

VALUE BET

INVINCIBLE BAY (R8 No.5 – $13)

Hard race to win with a short-priced $1.65 favourite Duke Of Neworleans at the top of the market but a definite boxed quinella and exacta chance. Bolted in second-up last time and comes from an astute yard.

THE JOCKEY

DAMIEN OLIVER

Champion jockey Damien Oliver going to Moe to ride Godolphin horses, among others, looms as a sign of intent.

CHARACTER (R1 No.4 – $4.40). HACKETTE (R2 No.17 – $13), ZOUPINO (R7 No.8 – $4.20) and DARK HORSE (R9 No.2 – $4.20).
